Retain the Beauty of Your Smile

Congratulations on completing your braces / aligners journey!

Is it over now? Well, we’re not quite out of the woods.

Just like you wouldn’t let your hair grow out of control or ignore an outdated eyeglass prescription, it’s your responsibility to stay on top of your teeth to keep them in perfect alignment. Over time, teeth naturally shift, but the good news is that wearing your custom-made retainer regularly is the simple solution.

Think of your retainer as the guardian of your smile—an easy, ongoing responsibility to keep your smile as flawless as the day your treatment ended!

FAQs

are retainers included?

Yes! You’ll receive 2 clear, removable retainers for both the top and bottom teeth. They’re comfortable, easy to clean, and can be removed for eating or brushing. With proper care, your retainers should last for several years.

How long do I have to wear my retainers?

We have 3 phases:

  1. Initial Phase (Full-time wear) - During the first 6 months after your braces or aligners are removed, wear your retainer full-time, except when eating or brushing.

  2. Maintenance Phase (Night-only wear) - Most patients switch to wearing their retainer only at night.

  3. Long-term Phase (As-needed wear) - In this phase, wearing your retainer every other night is usually enough to keep your teeth in place. If it goes in easily, your teeth are holding up well. If it is tight or you’re unsure, please check in with us!

What if I don’t wear my retainer as instructed?

Skipping retainer wear after all the work done to align your teeth can cause them to shift back. Inconsistent wear may lead to needing additional orthodontic treatment in the future.

Do you have a retainer program?

Yes! Our retainer program is called the Rhea Retention Program. Named after the Greek goddess of motherhood and protection, this plan program ensures that your beautiful new smile stays secure. Please scroll down for more information.

What if I am not interested in the retainer program?

No worries! Alternatively, you can choose to simply order new retainers as needed.

What happens if my teeth move or my retainer stops fitting?

If you are wearing your retainer as instructed, this should not happen! If your teeth do shift or the retainer no longer fits, we may need to discuss options for re-treatment. Re-treating teeth takes time and effort, and there will be a fee. We really want to avoid this situation, so please let us know immediately if you lose your retainer or notice any changes in your smile.

A request from us to you

It’s much easier (and more cost-effective for you) to maintain your teeth in their current position than having to realign them. If you lose or damage your retainer, or notice any changes in your smile, please promise to speak now and let us know immediately! The sooner we address any issues, the easier it is to keep your smile on track.
